In a little known corner of Italy, once part of Magna Graecia,
rich in history and architecture and blessed with a tradition
of fine cuisine, you will find Il Melograno:
a 17th century "Masseria" or fortified farmhouse
built originally
as a defence against Saracen and Byzantine invaders.
Today, after an impeccable restoration, it is a luxurious
five star Relais & Chateaux hotel, nestled in a sea of
olive trees bent by breezes from the Adriatic and gnarled
by the passing centuries.

Each of the 31 rooms and six suites nestled around
the central piazza has been individually furnished with antiques
under the care of the owner Camillo Guerra, an art and antique
dealer. All rooms are air-conditioned and equipped with satellite
TV, security safe and mini bar. Some have an individual patio
and jacuzzi.

La Peschiera Beach Club - open from mid-June to mid-September
Built on the foundations of an ancient Bourbon (17th century)
fishery, it is now a unique private beach facility with bar
and extraordinary seafood restaurant. It offers the possibility
of a relaxing day by the Adriatic. It is located 8 kilometers
(5 miles) from Il Melograno, near the ruins of ancient Egnazia.
Regular shuttle service is provided free of charge from the
hotel.

IL TRAPPETELLO****
| Not very far from Monopoli, stands "The Trappetello",
a magnific ancient and fortified farm, immersed in a charming
mix of colours and mediterranean flavours. A fascinating place
in wich a combination of grottos and a hypogeum, dating back to
the X century, makes farm unique in its way. It was built in the
XVII century by the Barin Manfredi the owner of the hole land,
and the fortified farm always was the landmark for aristocracy's
parties. |

BARSENTUM****
Barsentum, a touristic and receptive
area, is a fortified medieval locality which has been restored
following the original, artistic and architectonical rules.
Plunged in a green and large oasis among the countrysides of Putignano
and Noci, the village has enormous green spaces, big halls and
huge outer spaces perfect for parties, meetings, conventions and
any other celebration.
The restaurant allowes to taste tipical and regional courses that
recall traditions of the past. Moreover there is the possibility
to spend the night and pass lovely weekends in our tipical "trulli"

The fortified farmstead
"I Monti" is situated on the site of Barsento and it
dates back to the XVI century. The restoration work uncovered
arches dating from the XII century. It is thought that here, thanks
to the presence of a natural bowl-shaped pool, is the spring of
he "jazzo", used by the Abbey of St. Maria of Barsento
which Pope St. Gregorio Magno had built for the monks of St. Equizio.
Today, thanks to sensitivity of Mino Simone and the restoration
he has carried out, it is again possible to admire the farmstead
as it once was. The grey, weathered stones are today admired by
everyone who comes to visit and they will continue to remind us
of the ancient history that again thanks to our care

MASSERIA TORRE COCCARO*****L
Torre Coccaro is the name of this Masseria
built in the XVI century.
The land around it is full of antique olive trees. The mission
of the five star resort that will derive from this restoration
work is to bring back the guests to the antique natural life.
This kind of Masserias are infact sighting towers against the
attacks of the Turks pirates and they are all in the same line
approx. 1 km from the sea in order to see first the attack. With
the passing of time they have been used for the production of
the green gold : the olive oil, infact we are in the biggest producing
area of high quality olive oil in all of Italy.

33 rooms all with their own private
little garden deep in the olive trees territory of the fasano
planes, 2 rooms are in the antique caves, one of which is a very
large suite with its own private 200 sqmt antique orchard. Orchard
in which, out of an antique water reservoir we have built a little
private pool for this special room even with the latest jacuzzi.
Meanwhile there are rooms in the antique tower were they used
to hang to dry the cerry tomatoes for the winter and you can see
the blue sea from the little spy - windows. Some other rooms are
placed inside the courtyard of the Masseria and one has its own
antique orchard garden.

door; you cross the threshold and, in the large stone yard, time
